A Mom's Perspective
As a busy working mom of three, I am dependent on others to help lend a hand. The old African proverb, “it takes a village” runs so true this day in age. It is very difficult for one parent, or even two parents, to raise a child. You really need the whole village; in our case, the whole community. Child rearing can be so rewarding and fulfilling, but it’s not all rainbows and unicorns. Kids have wants and needs that can make a mom’s head spin. I often feel split in many directions and truthfully find myself longing for bedtime some days just so I can take a break. If it weren’t for my friends, those that are always there to lend a hand and a smile, I couldn’t get it all done. Fostering relationships is critical to our health mentally and physically, and spending time with those that matter is a win-win…you both reap the benefits of togetherness. So take a break from the day-to-day craziness and grab a friend to share time with. Let her know you value her – whether it is for her carpool assistance, her volunteer coaching, or just her sympathetic ear. Meet for a coffee break or lace up your sneakers and take a walk. Our friend time is therapeutic, and essential. You’ll be so glad you did.
